Devon Area Report
July 2016

The first of this year's Southwest Triumph meets, at the American Diner Route 5 at the top of Haldon Hill, was well supported with over 25 cars attending. We were delighted to see the Earls again and to welcome the Monmouth Mafia, this time in John's white Acclaim. Following a huge brunch, a number of us had a short
but scenic drive through Haldan Forest and down to the coast at Starcross, before a halt at Powderham Farm Shop for tea or an ice cream. On the way home, we were passed by another two Stags separately, which were not at the Route 5 meeting, who were they?

The following week, we had a lovely day at Killerton House, the National Trust property near Exeter. Despite the problems caused by a major closure of the A38, we had a good number of cars there. A good variety too, from Jackie's 13/60 estate, 5 Vitesses (and It was good to catch up with Anthony B again), 2 1500 Spitfires, 2 Stags, Keith's TR4 and Simon's early Mk I 2000. We saw a number of other local members there, including the Exmouth two - Chas and Dave - With their GT6s and also Alistair & Andy now the owners of not one but two Triumphs. The only problem was the Club banner flag which even with a brand new
flagpole, developed its well known dreaded droop. It was a big show, with we heard around 500 cars on display.

May's Club Night brought out only a few cars to play but it was a pretty chilly evening. The pub however was filled to the brim with our crew. It was good to see family Treleaven back with us after missing for a while due to clashing dates and Sam's exams.

Pecorama on 28 May saw a massive turnout of our cars with 27 Triumphs representing TSSC. Apart from the large Devon contingent, we had a large number of Somerset cars, 3 from South Wales and 2 from Dorset South. We had a brilliant day in the sun, all tops down, with the miniature steam trains and gardens at
Pecorama adding to the attractions. AND the Club's banner flag stayed up for a change.

We could not make it to the North Devon meeting on 2 June as we were off the following day for the first Devon Camping weekend at Martock in Somerset and had lots to do sorting out the various animals before we went. Off on the Friday morning with Maurice & Mary, we arnved on site to find the rest of the Devon crew there already, Jackie & Allan and Ian & Karen, together with Colin and Carol representing Cornwall. Later the Bristol contingent of Sue & Steve, Mark & Mary and Chris and Ange arrived to join us. A total of 6 Triumphs, a Mkll Jag and Karen's Bedford Ambulance. A good meal at a nearby pub followed. Saturday
took us to a Village fete at Corfe near Taunton with around 70 stalls, live jazz, birds of prey and a couple of stunt planes. Back to the site where owners Nancy & Mick had put on a great roast pork meal with salads and desserts. None of us surfaced as early as we'd planned on the Sunday, but we then drove the few miles
to Haynes International Motor Museum at Sparkford for their monthly Breakfast Club meeting. Some fantastic cars there and ours of course. Back to the campsite for a Devon I Cornwall cream tea - no arguing over which goes on first, then we dispersed homewards. A really relaxed and fun weekend in the sun.

The beginning of July will be the TSSC nationat event TriumFest UK at Santa Pod Raceway, but several of our members Will be heading to Martock again, this time for the Retro Fundraising Festival which we attended last year.

Thursday 7 is the North Devon meeting at Littleham and Club Night at the Star Inn Liverton is Wednesday 20 July when of
course all are welcome. The Crashbox Club show at Powderham Castle on 9 and 10 July will see our biggest ever entry on the TSSC Club stand where we are expecting 40 cars to attend each day. Even if you have not entered your car, do come along and see us on the Club stand, we love to chat anything Triumph related. Martin Hughes (Area Orqaniser for Somerset and COM member) will be there carrying our Club insurance valuations on our cars. At only £15 every two years, this IS an Important part of Triumph ownership and one of the major benefits of the Club.

It's high summer now - so get those Triumphs out and about! As always, we would ask that you check both the Devon website and the Club's national one for details of all events and if you do notreceive our regular email updates, do contact us with your details. Also don't forget we have the TSSC Devon Facebook page on which you can find lots of info.

2 - 3 July - TriumFest UK at Santa Pod Raceway

Thursday 7 July - North Devon Meeting at the Crealock Arms, Littleham

Wednesday 20 July Club Night at the Star Inn Liverton

5-7 August Triumphs at West Somerset Railway Show

7 August Mt Edgcumbe Show

With the west of the country getting the best of the weather in early June, it was a beautiful sunny and warm evening for this month's club night, what a pleasant change! On the last mile or so before Michele and I arrived at the Crealock Arms I could see the white MK3 Spitfire of Dan Brace in my rear view, we pulled in
to the car park find Mike Hadley outside enjoying the sunshine a cold drink and a view of his Spitfire.

Not far behind us were Alan & Janet Brace in their Spitfire 1500, with Malcolm & Mandy Huxtable making up a quartet of Spitfires with their MK4. Mike, finding any excuse to drive his car, decided on doing a circuit of the car park, so he could park his car with the other 3 Spitfires. David & Sue Whitehead arrived in their TR8
and then 2 ex- TSSC members in John Whitehead and Glenn Merritt had made the journey down from IIfracombe, always good to see new faces at the meetings. After a very pleasant half hour or so in the evening sunshine, we all headed inside to get our food orders in.

Apologies were received earlier in the week from Club ight regular Andy Luckhurst as he was away, also from Steve Williams and the Barnstaple TR guys as they were all heading off to the Jersey International Motoring Festival, look forward to hearing how that went.

The shows are coming thick and fast now. Unfortunately I work regular weekends so it's difficult to get to tha many. I had attended the SEM at Leatherhead in early May, I never missed this one when we lived in Surrey, so it was grea to be back for the first time in 10 years, great weather and tumout. You can see other
shows that Devon members have attended on our website: http://tssc-devon.org.uk/events/events-2016.html

There is a small North Devon contingent (Malcom +1, me and Michele) heading for the Trains & Triumph event at the South Devon Railway, Buckfastleigh, on 12th June, so we were plotting a good meeting point at route down. Let's hope the good weather continues for this and future events.

That's all from North Devon this month.
